Because They’ve Already Cured Cancer and Solved World Hunger – Scientists Unravel Secrets of Online Dating Profiles

Just in time for Valentine’s day, scientists unraveled the secrets to creating the perfect online dating profile.

(Wait…what? Is this what “science” is working on? Online Dating Profiles? Who paid for this?)

Khalid Khan, lead author of the new study, and his co-author Sameer Chaudhry pored through more than 86 studies to determine what makes a profile successful. The idea for the study, published this week in the journal Evidence-Based Medicine, came after Chaudry told Khan he wasn’t having success finding love online.

(Ok. Seriously? This study was published in a REAL medical journal. No joke.)

“He was asking me to improve his profile to figure out something to do differently. I had never done online dating myself,” said Khan, a professor of Women’s Health and Clinical Epidemiologyat the Queen May University of London School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Among the many results of the study, these game changing discoveries were made:

  • The lovelorn should avoid names with negative associations, such as ‘Little’ or ‘Bug’, and aim for something more playful, such as ‘Fun2bwith’ as this type of name is universally attractive.

  • Men are more drawn to names that indicate physical attractiveness, such as ’Blondie’ or ‘Cutie’ while women go for names that signal intelligence, such as ‘Cultured.’
